Elaine Brodsky grew up in a small town in upstate New York. She graduated from Elmira College with a degree in elementary education and taught school for several years. Furthering her education, she later received advanced credits in French, education, and counseling, with a specialty in the area of families of compulsive gamblers, drug addicts, and alcoholics. Her sensitivity to family issues and interactions led her to becoming involved with local womens groups and workshops. For several years, she worked for the New York State Office of Mental Health coordinating conferences.
When her trucking company won the Inc. 500 in 1986, 1987, and 1988, she attended the annual conference. This led to her involvement with the editors of Inc. Magazine who were very supportive of the family issues on the entrepreneurial journey. She wrote an article, The Other Woman, which was published in Inc. Magazine in September, 1988. She has also been featured in USA Today and quoted in the New York Times as well as in other local newspapers around the country. For the past 18 years, she has been leading sessions at Inc. Conferences, as well as for Canyon Ranch Spa, Sheraton Hotels, the National Gathering of Games, and the Entrepreneur of the Year. Her creative and innovative workshops introduce subjects to which women can relate. Elaine counsels women on adjustments, both personal and family, that must be made during the growth of a business. She encourages spouses in entrepreneurial partnerships to evaluate their own needs. Her roundtable discussions focus on communication and relationship issues facing entrepreneurs and their families.
Elaine currently is the owner of CitiStorage, LLC an archival storage and management company with over 450 employees, located in Brooklyn, NY. The company is certified as a Woman-owned Business Enterprise (WBE) by the New York City Department of Small Business Services. In 2005, the company received the Strive Employer of the Year Award for demonstrating a commitment to providing second chances to individuals and assisting them in becoming productive members of society. CitiStorage is one of the companies featured in a new business book, Small Giants-Companies That Choose to Be Great Instead of Big, by Bo Burlingham. A winner of the 2006 Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year regional award for New York City, Elaine attended the National Conference in Palm Springs in November, 2006.
Elaine co-authors articles in the Women in Business section of inc.com. and is mentoring several women business owners, including a couple involved with President Bill Clintons Harlem Initiative.
Elaine and the innovative Business Excellence sessions she runs for her employees have been the subject of several articles in the Street Smarts column of Inc. Magazine. All company programs are geared toward motivating personal growth and teamwork which is a win/win situation for everyone. Drawing on her life experiences and bringing them to the workplace has allowed her to share her knowledge and bring her business to constantly higher levels of achievement. She is passionate about the positive culture she has created for her inner city employees. Elaine feels strongly about her responsibility and commitment to improve the quality of life for her employees, customers, and local community. She finds her role as an entrepreneur very fulfilling because she can make a difference in peoples lives.
She and her husband, Norman, have been married 37 years. They have two daughters, Beth and Rachel, aged 23 and 32.

I'm continually inspired and energized by the women and men who make up one of the city's most amazing professional organizations. I'm also in a pretty great position as managing editor of the print newsletter, as I get to "see" what's going on in peoples' lives, their businesses, and share their accomplishments
and sorrows.
