EVENT DETAILS

What is it like to be a woman and own a business in a male-dominated industry? What 'is' a male-dominated industry these days? Some say nearly every industry is still populated mostly by men, but there are some professions which still seem to be entirely male-dominated.

Join us for this enlightening program when Nina Simon, founder of Renaissance Renovations, will share her stories and insights on being one of the only woman-owned general construction contracting firms in the New York City area. Nina views her role of the contractor as being the "calm in the eye of a hurricane." Come learn how traditionally feminine qualities can be an advantage when working with your clients and your team, and the techniques Nina uses to dispel the myths people have about working with those in her profession.

Whether you work mostly with men or women, you will come away with techniques you too can use to be more effective in your business and workplace. This will be a very entertaining and enlightening program which you will not want to miss!

ABOUT NINA SIMON
Nina Simon has been a licensed contractor in the City of New York since 1996. She founded Renaissance Renovations in 2001. Prior to starting her own contracting business, Nina worked as a carpenter for twenty years. This gives her the unique qualification of understanding not only the project as a whole, but the actual technical steps needed to accomplish the goal.

As team leader, Nina sets the tone of each project. Just like an orchestra or a train conductor, she will assure that the timing of the project moves efficiently forward with the input of the appropriate trades at the proper time. Her vast life and construction experience enables her to be flexible and creative in finding solutions to the problems that inevitably present themselves when doing renovation and restoration work. The atmosphere on the job site is productive and respectful to you, to the workers and to the work itself.

Nina studied design at Parsons School for Design in New York City and was an antique dealer for a number of years. She completed the course work for a Masters Degree in French language and literature. She speaks three languages and has traveled extensively. Nina has two children and writes fiction, enjoys hiking, reading, going to the theatre and cooking.

Member's Comment
My membership has paid off in so many ways. The three Signature Awards Programs I designed helped bring in several new clients. And my involvement with updating the current NAWBO-NYC website has generated a major project and an office space for my company.
