BUSINESS LUMINARIES COMMITTEE
The Business Luminaries Committee is one of the cornerstones of our organization. Along with our other programming committees, the Business Luminaries Programs are the public face of NAWBO-NYC.

What We Do: Our Business Luminaries Series features high profile speakers who stand out in their fields, speaking about their experiences, lessons learned, and imparting not only advice in their areas of expertise, but wisdom gained along the way. These events are meant to inspire and instruct business owners at any level. All programs are structured to allow for informal networking time, and some feature formalized networking opportunities.

What We Need: Each member is encouraged to help organize our programs, from brainstorming the initial ideas to contacting potential speakers. We need people who can:

• Develop program ideas, from brainstorming through full development.
• Find and contact potential speakers.
• Organize events by securing venues and managing logistics.
• Coordinate production of promotional materials with the various Communications Committees.
• Coordinate with corporate partners who are sponsoring specific events or are otherwise involved with an event.
• Communicate with other committees.

ENTREPRENEUR ROUNDTABLES COMMITTEE
The Entrepreneur Roundtables Committee brings members together to “engage, encourage, and enable,” featuring expert speakers on topics such as marketing, finance, management, technology and interpersonal skills. These events are intended to be a more hands on experience, with helpful information for the less seasoned business owner. They also provide excellent opportunities for networking and relationship building

What We Do:
The committee chooses topics that meet specific objectives and develops the format for each event. Committee members then team up to handle the details.

Each month, the committee helps refine the programs as necessary. Teams communicate through phone/fax/email on an as-needed basis. Non-team members contribute by analyzing survey results, keeping a running log of committee activities and decisions, writing articles for the newsletter and assisting with set-up and greeting people at Roundtable
programs.

What We Need: We are looking for proactive people eager to develop leadership and organizational skills and participate in the following roles:

  • Ambassador to meet and greet attendees and to promote Roundtable programs and committee involvement at other NAWBO-NYC events.
  • Analyst to tally Roundtable survey card responses to document trends in program attendance, including topics that garner the highest response.
  • Librarian/Archivist to update and maintain the committee archive as well as a running log on all program ideas, whether pursued or not (and why not, if not).
  • Program Planner to evaluate potential speakers, draft promotional flyers and confirm arrangements with speakers and sponsors.
  • Reporter to draft articles for the NAWBO-NYC newsletter covering Roundtable programs.
  • Secretary to document all committee policy and programming decisions and to take minutes of committee meetings.

STRUCTURED NETWORKING EVENTS COMMITTEE
NAWBO-NYC’s Structured Networking Events are dinners and breakfasts designed to help members meet fellow NAWBO-NYC members and friends in a setting that encourages interaction. During these progressive networking meals, member spend each course with a different group of dynamic people so each member will have a chance to learn about each other’s services, develop relationships, and find support and resources to help grow the business. There are facilitators to structure the events and give everyone a chance to use a variety of networking tools
.

  • Ambassador to meet and greet attendees and to promote the programs and committee involvement at events.
  • Act as a facilitator at the event and help answer questions
  • Draft promotional email announcement and confirm arrangements with event venue and sponsors.
  • Work with a photographer or help take pictures of the event to be featured on our website.

Member's Comment
NAWBO-NYC has been an amazing resource for me. I formed strategic partnerships, launched a business, found sounding boards, broadened my skill set by being on the board, sourced referrals and made friends. It truly has been a joy being part of this organization.
