What are these teams and what kinds of opportunities are there?
NAWBO-NYC has lots of ways you can get involved. See our brief descriptions of each Committee to get a sense of how they fit into the NAWBO-NYC body!
Communications is the mouthpiece of the organization. Its how we communicate with our members and the outside world. Writing and editing copy, developing our website, sending our eConnect newsletter, creating print pieces for special events all these are crucial to a consistent brand that speaks a strong message.
Development is the lifeblood of the organization. Whether its fundraising, securing corporate partnerships, holding special event like our Signature Awards, or managing the finances of the organization, Development ensures that we are poised and ready for healthy growth.
Governance gives our organization its structure. In addition to reviewing our organizations bylaws, Governance also looks out for the future leadership of the organization the legs that take us where we need to go by canvassing the membership and identifying qualified candidates to service in leadership positions, including Board and Officer positions.
Membership is at the heart of NAWBO- NYC. For without our members, where would we be? The Membership Team develops the NAWBO-NYC community through its outreach to and connections with new and existing members, its alliances with like- minded organizations that also reflect the rich multicultural NYC environment, and the benefits it secures for the membership.
Programs are the public face of NAWBO- NYC. They are often peoples first experience with NAWBO-NYC and the first place they think of for making their networking connections. Whether its the programming that informs, motivates, and entertains, or the networking that empowers, the Program Team makes it all happen!
Saving the best for last, Public Policy is, arguably, the soul of NAWBO-NYC. It was a public policy issue the fact that, in the late 1970s, women could not get access to capital in their own name that sparked the formation of what is now NAWBO, a national organization with over 80 chapters and thousands of members nationwide. The Public Policy Team educates members about the important policy issues that impact their businesses, such as affordable health care, opportunities for women-owned businesses to get government contracts, and access to capital. It also participates in public policy events in Albany and Washington D.C. including NAWBO National Public Policy Days.
