In 1994, while in graduate school, Sallie Mullins Thompson started her business management and financial consulting practice, providing services to small business owners in the areas of accounting, taxation, budgeting, payroll, financial reporting, project management, retirement planning, and administrative policies and procedures.
Prior to starting her consulting practice, Sallie spent 20 years with IBM in New York City and Houston as a marketing representative, business systems analyst, and project manager. She worked with Allmerica Financial in Houston in 1993 as a financial planner and investment advisor, is licensed to sell insurance and investment products, and has managed financial assets for high-net-worth individuals since 1994.
In May 2002 Sallie passed all four parts of the CPA on her first attempt and was awarded her Texas CPA certificate in 2005. She received her MBA in Accounting from Houston Baptist University in May 2001, holds a M. Ed in Guidance and Counseling from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, FL and obtained her BA in Psychology, with minors in English and Sociology, from Sweet Briar College in Virginia.
When not working for profit, Sallie has served on the Board of the Greater Houston Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO), where she was a member since 1994 and held the positions of Treasurer, Governmental Affairs liaison, and chapter Public Policy Rep. She recently joined the NAWBO NYC chapter where she is Vice President of Governance and chair of the Audit and Nominating Committees.
At the national NAWBO level, Sallie was chair of the governing board of the NAWBO PAC during 2004 06 and served, ex-officio, on NAWBOs national board of directors. Prior to that period, for 3 years, she was the SW Region Public Policy Coordinator, where she monitored NAWBO interests in the Taxation area. Additionally, she is a National Founding Partner of Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP). She was previously a member of the Greater Southwest Houston Chamber of Commerce where she co-chaired its Governmental Affairs task force.
Sallie won national NAWBOs Bridge Builder award in 2004 and was the Houston chapters Woman of Excellence for that same year. In February 2003, Sallie was presented the Chapter Public Policy Advocate of the Year award at NAWBOs annual Public Policy Days. She is the 2002 recipient of the SBA Houston District Home-based Business Advocate award.
Sallie was Director, Treasurer, and Business Manager for her homeowners association from 1995 until May 2001. From 1995 until 1999, she was on the Board of Directors and Chairperson of the Finance and Administration Committee at ESCAPE Family Resource Center. She has been a member of the National Junior Leagues of Houston, New York City, and Palm Beach, Florida since 1966. Her other volunteer experiences include United Way and Houston SPCA.
Sallies personal interests are exercising, recycling, and public policy issues that impact women-owned businesses. She is the proud mother of her daughter, Kathryn, who lives in Washington, DC. In 2005, Sallie, after 30 years in Houston, moved back to NYC where she lives in the West Village with her adorable cat, Tiger, and her husband, Ralph.

NAWBO has not only been a source of business for me, but more importantly, a resource. As a graphic designer, I frequently partner up with others to complete projects for my clients. Since I joined NAWBO-NYC two years ago, I've had the pleasure of building great relationships with several members, and we have successfully completed client work together. I've found the women of NAWBO-NYC to be a wonderful and supportive sounding board for my business.
