Have a million questions about your business?

Remember all the questions you had as a kid: Why does the sun set? Why is
the sky blue? Why do fish swim? We baffled and exhausted adults, but we
needed to know.

Starting and managing your own business unleashes the question genie. Services abound to answer and handle your queries--google is great and organizations like NAWBO NYC are a real life line as well. Another resource at hand to add to your list: the NYC Business Solutions Center, part of the NYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS).

Free one-on-one counseling is available for legal review of contracts and leases, financing assistance, navigating government, employee recruitment and training, selling to government, and much more. For my own business, I have sat down with a counselor and had my proposals reviewed, requested information about city property credits and incentives, and received a list of leads for commercial kitchen space through the Small Business Solutions Center in Lower Manhattan. If you are seeking business information as it directly relates to working in NYC, this is a great starting point for many businesses.

In January 2010, we met with Karen-Michelle Mirko, Director, and Patricia Gonzalez, Senior Account Manager, at the 79 John Street Center to learn about what new resources are being offered for small businesses this year. To sum it open, the Centers want to answer your questions and have been working pro-actively setting up networks and collecting city-wide resources to answer your business questions and meet your needs.

Things to know:
• There are six centers you can visit throughout the five boroughs.
Monthly business course eventss are available.
• Information on how to start a business.
• Learn how to do business with the city and the Minority- and Women-owned Business Enterprise (M/WBE) Program,
• View a full list of services and the NYC Business Solutions website.

The NYC Business Solutions slogan is Helping New York City Business: Start. Operate. Expand. If you have a business in NYC, this resource is for you to use!
